Shadow of the Colossus is a game developed by Team Ico and released in 2005. The game is composed by Ko Otani and serves as the spiritual successor and prequel to the game Ico. The premise of Shadow Of The Colossus is that you are a character named Wander who enters into a forbidden land to defeat giant monsters only named Colossi in order to resurrect your deceased maiden named Mono. This game is set apart by the fact that there are only boss battles, there are no towns to explore and no townsfolk to interact with.

Shadow Of The Colossus reminded me a bit of Zelda, with a more adult twist. It also reminded me of the Capcom game Monster Hunter as well. The music in this game is highly regarded, and is even analyzed in the book “Music In Games: Studying Play.” For a very in depth analysis of the music in Shadow Of The Colossus, I highly recommend that you refer to that book. Overall Shadow Of The Colossus is a very fun game that gives the player an experience that is not seen in most games.

The battles with the Colossus make the player think in order to defeat the monsters. The Colossi are riddled with weak spots that the player has to carefully climb to and attack in order to defeat them. This can be quite challenging sometimes since the monsters are constantly trying to shake you off. This game is regarded by some as one of the greatest games of all time, so in this respect I highly recommend anyone to give this a try.
